POMPEII – Life in a Roman town
And so I decided to visit the museum one day..
There was this Roman town exhibition on so I went to take a look to kill some time off and gain some knowledge. I love to visit exhibitions because it is kind of exciting as you’ll never know what’s in for you. There’s so much to explore and learn about too. The pictures are taken in November but I contracted a disease by the name lazelazelaziness so I only got around to post this now ^^;
At the entrance of the exhibition lies many resin casts of people and also animals who or which died by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Southern Italy – 79CE. It felt kinda creepy..having “corpses” lying around all over…
There were also free guided tour service available scheduled a few times from the morning till evening. I was following this group in the beginning but got bored because they only went through some of the stuffs displayed so I decided to do my own exploration at my own pace. Almost forgot, the lady’s explanation was very good and she’s lovely as well.
Look at the exquisite craftsmanship! This is actually on top of a Gladiator’s helm. It is truly amazing to be able to achieve such detailed artwork I’d like to call it, with only primitive tools – The crafter must had one hell of a skill! I’m not ruling out the fact that they might have used a mold but the mold have to be sculpted first anyway.
A shoulder armour or shoulder guard, whichever you prefer.
A water faucet?
Cave Canem (Latin: kä-wā-ˈkä-ˌnem) - Beware the dog.
A 3D visualizer of a “The House of Vine” reconstructed would look like. Here’s a video showing the exact same thing.
An altar of gods and goddesses.
Hmm, God of rations?
A lamp stand.
There’s a corner at the end of the exhibition with books lined up on the table for you to read up on about Pompeii.
